SEI US Centre Director Ed Carr co-authored a Comment in Nature Climate Change elaborating on climate resilient development (CRD), a concept introduced in the IPCC sixth assessment cycle that points to how climate mitigation and adaptation support sustainable development.
As geopolitical and health crises compound existing planetary and humanitarian emergencies, global climate action is needed more urgently than ever, but is blunted by inequality, unsustainable consumption and siloed governance.
The authors of this Nature Climate Change Comment argue that CRD can address each of these challenges, fostering a more liveable planet while also supporting sustainable development. But it also confronts the status quo of governance and economics and requires societal transformation to achieve.
