Global efforts to decarbonize heavy industry remain insufficiently aligned. Greater international collaboration between and among states is needed to ensure a global transition. To understand the scale of the problem, this paper analyses 29 industry transition road maps across 13 countries.
The authors compare and contrast roadmaps according to decarbonization targets, the financial costs of implementing the roadmaps, and the key mitigation measures to achieve decarbonization targets. The paper synthesizes and categorizes the key political, financial and technological requirements needed to implement roadmaps.
The article demonstrates that the implementation of roadmaps across industries and countries faces similar constraints and challenges, emphasizing the necessity for international cooperation to promote global industry transitions.
