Kaidi Tamm

Kaidi Tamm is a Senior Expert and the Head the Sustainable Cities and Resilient Communities Unit. Kaidi has more than 15 years of experience in sustainability research, policy development and transdisciplinary collaboration across Estonia, Germany and the wider European region.

Her work focuses on sustainability transitions and systems change, inclusive climate governance, just transition, urban climate resilience and participatory spatial planning. She leads and contributes to European and national projects addressing social equity and community resilience, climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, sustainable mobility and transport vulnerability and improving the living environment. She also works on youth projects supporting transition to more sustainable lifestyles.

Kaidi works closely with municipalities, public authorities, researchers and communities to translate research into practical strategies and interventions. Her expertise includes co-creation and stakeholder engagement, social and socioeconomic analysis, sustainability assessment, capacity building and the integration of social justice into climate and urban policy. She has particular experience in designing participatory processes that include vulnerable and underrepresented groups.

Before joining SEI Tallinn in 2022, Kaidi worked at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology’s Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis, where she contributed to transdisciplinary projects on urban sustainability transformations, municipal capacity building, climate adaptation and energy transitions. Kaidi has also worked in sustainability consultancy and has an over a decade long experience in developing sustainability-related curricula and teaching related subjects at universities. Kaidi’s academic background is in social sciences and humanities with bachelor´s and master´s degrees in Semiotics and Culture Studies and Political Science from the University of Tartu, Estonia and PhD in Sociology from Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany.
