Mary Thompson-Hall

Mary Thompson-Hall is a Senior Scientist at SEI US. Her work focuses on supporting those experiencing and researching climate change to come together in more equitable, transparent and solutions-oriented ways. She has 20 years of experience working with communities, universities and institutions in sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and the US. 

Prior to joining SEI, Mary spent 10 years with START International where, alongside developing stand-alone capacity strengthening programs, she led contributions to large, international research consortia through collaborative research and overseeing capacity strengthening programs on diverse themes of gender, power, equity, conservation, green energy, health, agriculture, food security and more. These programs include Adaptation at Scale in Semi-Arid Regions (ASSAR), the Collaboration for Adaptation and Resilience in Mali (Co-FARM), Promoting Gains in Renewable Energy–West Africa (ProGREEN), Cascading Climate and Health Risks in African Cities (CASCADE) and Addressing Climate Vulnerability through Nature-Based Solutions using Transdisciplinary Engagement of Wetland Communities (AV-STEC). 

Mary has a PhD and MA in geography from the University of South Carolina, and a BA in environmental studies from the University of Tennessee.
