For the fifth year in a row SEI has been ranked among the top two think tanks in the world working on environment policy, this year ranking second. SEI was placed first last year and second in the previous three years’ rankings.

The University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tanks Index is designed to identify and recognise centers of excellence in all the major areas of public policy research in every region of the world. The index is based on a global survey of thousands of journalists, policy-makers, donors and specialists using a detailed list of criteria including leadership and staff; quality and reputation of the research produced; policy impact and recognition; convening power; innovation; inclusiveness; and communications. Think tanks are ranked globally and by region and expertise.

SEI is an international non-profit research and policy organization that tackles environment and development challenges. We connect science and decision-making to develop solutions for a sustainable future for all.

Our approach is highly collaborative: stakeholder involvement is at the heart of our efforts to build capacity, strengthen institutions, and equip partners for the long term. Through our eight centres in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, we engage with policy processes, development action and business practice throughout the world.

Bridging science and policy is the core of SEI’s work. We translate research from the academic literature into formats that make scientific insights applicable to policy. But we don’t stop there—we turn insight and analysis into practical applications and services. These practical tools help decision makers identify priorities, see connections and take advantage of synergies.
