This six-step roadmap enables transport, freight, and logistics businesses in Nigeria to cut their emissions while simultaneously improving their operational and financial health.
The framework is intended as a go-to guide to support transport businesses in Nigeria to cut emissions and improve air quality at the same time as upgrading their operations and accessing climate finance.
Through increased fuel efficiency, smarter fleet management, and a more intentional approach to climate considerations in business planning, organizations can reduce their operating costs, enhance resilience, contribute to a more sustainable transport sector, and boost their competitiveness.
The framework is flexible: it is designed so that businesses can start simply, using whatever operational data they have, and build from there, gradually improving their emissions management and climate action plans as their knowledge grows.
The framework is built around six straightforward steps:
The document has two parts. The first sets out the six steps, and provides an easy way to kick-start the process.
The second part includes technical annexes. Businesses can turn to these when they are further along in the process to access tools and guidance for each of the steps, from defining the scope of emissions through to accessing climate finance.
This framework was developed under the Nigeria UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions) programme’s project on Enhancing Private Sector Capacity for Climate and Clean Air Action in Nigeria. The project is funded by the UK Government and supports countries with high emissions-reduction potential to overcome barriers to clean growth and accelerate climate change mitigation by strengthening policy, governance, and market conditions.
This document was developed and prepared by the University of York – Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Escher Silverman Global (ESG), Africa PPP Advisory Services (AP3), the Consulting Engineers Group (CEG), and the SLOCAT Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport under the Nigeria-UK PACT country programme.
