Juan Sebastián Herrera is a Research Fellow with the Sustainable Transitions team at SEI Latin America, specializing in physical climate risk for the financial and real estate sectors in Colombia and across the region.
Before joining SEI, he was Director of Economic Modeling at First Street in New York, where he led the development of climate risk and loss methodologies for institutional portfolios – translating physical exposure into actionable financial metrics for investors, insurers and regulators across more than 60,000 companies worldwide. Previously, he was a Senior Consultant at HR&A Advisors in Washington, D.C., where he led financial modeling for housing programmes, climate risk instruments and scenario analyses for public and private sector clients in the United States. In Colombia, he served as National Urban Policy Manager at the Ministry of Housing and, before that, as an Adviser at Bogotá’s Special Administrative Unit for District Cadastre, where he worked on urban valuation analyses and the assessment of public-private infrastructure projects.
He holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of California in the United States, where he also conducted research on spatial economics and urban development.
