When selecting and developing carbon offset projects, ClimatePartner pays attention not only to their effectiveness, but also to the contribution they make to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

“High-quality CO2 offsetting projects have a much greater effect than offsetting CO2 emissions. Also, they always make an important contribution to the environment, local people and wildlife,” said Moritz Lehmkuhl, founder and CEO of ClimatePartner.

The study has been co-authored by SEI researchers Efraim Hernández Orozco, Elvine Kwamboka, Francis X. Johnson and Stefan Bößner. Among other things, the results of the authors assessment show that all the selected project types clearly have positive sustainable development impacts beyond GHG emission reductions.
