As the drivers of migration and mobility become increasingly complicated, this year’s conference highlights new and innovative research, programs and policies in Thailand, ASEAN and beyond that seek to improve the inclusion of migrant populations in societies. Faced with multiple and emerging crises, ranging from environmental changes, economic insecurity, to violence and conflicts, we continue to witness how migrants and their families, characterised by diverse identity markers, face barriers and exclusions throughout their journeys, in work, health, education, social protection, emergency responses and (re)integration.

All speakers are invited to reflect on these questions:

  • What policy developments have been made to promote and manage safe and fair migration at every stage of migrants’ journeys in the origin and destination countries?
  • How can opportunities in education, skills training and work be expanded among low-and middle-skilled labour migrants, which can encourage development gains at the family, community and national levels?
  • What kinds of future coordination and efforts between international organisations, civil society, academics, policymakers, and the private sector are needed to enhance protection and services to assist migrants in vulnerable situations?
