Making Circular Economy Happen will take place during the COP25 live events as part of Nordic Climate Actions Weeks by Nordic Co-operation. The discussion will focus on the impact of the circular economy on the present market economy and the environmental consequences of this, as well as what leadership and policy is needed to take the circular economy forward. The event will form part of the Climate Clever Citizens Challenge Parliamentarians – Nordic Council Day, hosted by Norrsken House.
This side event as part of Nordic Climate Actions Weeks by Nordic Co-operation, will discuss the impact of the circular economy to the existing market economy in its present form. After the introduction of the concept of circular economy only few years ago the concept has gained a lot of attention and momentum. However, sometimes is seems to be dealt with as a quick fix that just needs to be implemented. The internalization of externalities in terms of environmental consequences is still not the new norm and the existing market economy in its present form simply cannot implement circular economy alone.
By adapting a circular economy approach, waste will be reduced, dependence on raw material will be less and production will become more cost efficient. However, it is not as easy as it seems. We need political leadership, proper policy instruments and we need to work together. We welcome you to challenge your Nordic MPs!
