World Water Week, the leading annual conference on global water issues, will take place between 24 and 28 August 2025, in Stockholm and online.
This year’s World Water Week theme is Water for Climate Action. SEI experts will lead sessions on relevant topics and share their research at events hosted by other organizations.
Scientists have found climate change to be unfolding much faster than previously expected. World Water Week 2025 will explore multiple ways to stabilize the world’s climate through the intersection between climate policy, water resources management, biodiversity, and resilience. Additionally, every facet of water will be covered, linking to the UN 2025 theme of glaciers and acknowledging that all bodies of water should be included in water climate action.
Emphasizing a holistic approach to sustaining life, World Water Week 2025 will address the future of water through the lens of justice and equity. This event is for policymakers, practitioners, water professionals and everyone interested in the importance of water-related climate mitigation and resilience.
SEI’s extensive research on water sheds new light on many issues and crises related to water, often with an emphasis on finding solutions and inspiring action. Join us at World Water Week 2025 to learn more about topics like:

As global water stress accelerates, the freshwater planetary boundary has already been breached in many regions – threatening ecosystem stability, public health and socioeconomic development. This session convenes leading voices from science, policy, finance, and innovation to explore how we can identify, assess, and respond to freshwater-related risks at global, national, and local levels. It will highlight new approaches to risk mapping, cutting-edge policies like the EU Water Resilience Strategy, and financial mechanisms that aim to build equitable, climate-resilient water systems. From early warning systems to circular solutions, this session connects high-level data with actionable local interventions.
Senior Research Fellow Michael Lathuillière will be a panelist in this discussion.
