Lay it all on the table – a ‘Pint of Science’ event on sustainable food

In this informal event, Sarah Laptain will host four early career researchers from the University of York and York St John University as they delve into issues of food security, climate change, and infant nutrition.

The event will include four talks:

  • Kelli Kennedy – Food insecurity during Covid-19: Experiences from Leeds and Fresno
  • Beckie Lait – The role of meat and livestock reduction in tackling the food system’s impact on climate change
  • Ulrike Ehgartner – Grains for Change: Building a Sustainable Food Future in Yorkshire
  • Sarah Veale – Feeding Futures: Unleashing the Power of Nutrition for UK Infants from Womb to Weaning

Pint of Science is a worldwide science festival which brings researchers to local pubs, cafes and other public spaces to share their scientific discoveries with the anyone interested. This year, in the UK, it takes place across 41 towns and cities 13-15 May.

Sarah Laptain is PhD student at SEI York and the Department of Environment and Geography, University of York. Sarah’s research involves diversifying participation in citizen science and she is part of SEI York’s citizen science research group.
