Climate Week 4-10 March

Climate Week (4-10 March) is a national campaign highlighting positive steps that people can do to live and work more sustainably. At SEI York we are doing our bit by promoting our online footprinting tool, Reap Petite, which allows individuals to calculate the impact their household has on the environment.

All across the country, people are using the tool to see the impacts associated with their energy, travel, shopping and hobbies.

Chris Forster is working with the University of Strathclyde Student Association to calculate the footprints of staff and students using Reap Petite.

Chris said

Reap Petite has been a very useful research tool. It has been easy to use and provides a great breakdown of CO2 emissions. We hope this can help us to promote a more sustainable campus, by helping students and staff reduce their footprints”.

In York, SEI staff Sarah West and Alison Dyke are using Reap Petite in the Living at Derwenthorpe project led by the Centre for Housing Policy, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Derwenthorpe is a new housing development in York and Reap Petite is being used in combination with in-depth interviews to assess the impact of the development on household emissions.

The tool is quick and easy to use, and gives you a breakdown of your emissions, so you can see whether the emissions saved by your cycling to work and not taking long-haul flights are out-weighed by the energy required to heat your draughty Victorian terrace.

If you are using Reap Petite in a research or community project, SEI would love to hear from you. Contact [email protected]
