The former award-winning journalist and author of the renowned book Silent Seas – the Fish Race to the Bottom was a member of the European Parliament from 2009- 2014 and appointed Sweden’s Minister of International Development Cooperation in 2014. She became a co-spokesperson of the Green Party in 2016 as well as deputy prime minister. Before she left politics in February 2021, she was minister for climate and the environment.

I am very honoured to have been appointed chair of the board of SEI. Connecting science and knowledge about ecosystems with decision-making is one of the most urgent tasks of the world right now and here SEI is making a very important contribution with its highly respected research, many international offices and global reach.

Isabella Lövin

Lövin holds an Honorary Doctorate from the World Maritime University for her work to protect the oceans and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences for her efforts to focus on fishery issues in Sweden, as well as internationally.

Isabella Lövin brings international and national policy experience at the very highest level on climate change, as well as development cooperation and EU politics. She is the perfect chairperson for SEI and I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to work with her in shaping SEI's next steps.

Måns Nilsson, Executive Director of SEI

Lövin will replace acting chairperson Lennart Båge. The Swedish government also appointed Magnus Billing, CEO of Alecta, as a new board member.

“I am very happy to welcome Magnus Billing, who will bring valuable perspectives and knowledge about sustainable finance to our work,” says Nilsson.
