SEI have relaunched Reap-Petite, the community footprinting tool. This allows individuals and households to calculate the impacts of their daily consumption on the environment, taking a holistic approach by looking at travel, power, food, activities and shopping habits.
Some changes have recently been made to the tool based on the feedback from users, and a section measuring people’s environmental attitudes has been added to see how these compare to users footprints. The changes have been made possible through funding from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation/Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust as the tool is being used to evaluate the success of Derwenthorpe, Joseph Rowntree’s new sustainable community in York.
Derwenthorpe residents are being encouraged to calculate their footprint every six months to see if living in the community reduces their carbon and environmental footprints. The project is being led by the Centre for Housing Policy at the University of York.
