Sweden has long, perhaps for too long, depended on ever-growing imports of food. But competition over natural resources is increasing in a world that will have to provide for an extra two billion people by 2050. How do we meet a growing population’s demand for food? Can Sweden, through better exploiting its comparative advantages, contribute to improved and increased food production?

A seminar at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) on 19 March examined these questions, bringing together perspectives from research, government, and agriculture. The event grew out of an opinion article co-authored by SEI’s Executive Director, Johan L. Kuylenstierna, and SLU Vice Chancellor Lisa Sennerby Forsse. The entire discussion is available on video (in Swedish), and the presentations are posted as well. Click on the image below to watch.
