The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has appointed SEI Executive Director Måns Nilsson as a member of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) for the 2025–2029 term. His nomination by the UN Secretary-General was approved at ECOSOC’s plenary meeting on 30 July 2025, and his appointment took effect on 1 August 2025.

“It is a true honour to be elected to serve on the CEPA and contribute research insights on how public governance and administration can become more coherent, integrated and effective – a task that becomes ever more challenging and important as the world becomes more complex,” said Nilsson.

CEPA, established by ECOSOC in 2001, supports the Council’s work in promoting and developing public administration and governance among UN member states. The Committee’s mandate places particular emphasis on advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Serving in a personal capacity, Nilsson will work alongside 23 other experts from around the world. Together, the members advise ECOSOC on governance and public administration dimensions of sustainable socio-economic development. Their areas of focus include human capital development, participatory governance, capacity development in crisis and post-conflict countries, and innovations in public administration and governance.

The next meeting of CEPA will be held at UN Headquarters in New York from 13 to 17 April 2026. A full list of members for the 2025–2029 term, along with further information on the Committee’s work, is available on the UN website.
