Efrén Gómez Arévalo

Efrén is a Research Associate in the Water Research team at SEI Latin America, based in Bogotá, Colombia. He is passionate about sustainable groundwater management.

Prior to joining SEI, Efrén worked on research and consulting projects related to groundwater exploration with private and public companies in Colombia and Ecuador. His experience includes hydrogeological cartography, environmental aquifer management, studies in hydrogeochemistry, land subsidence, and white hydrogen-water relations, as well as conceptual groundwater modeling and groundwater-flow modeling. At SEI, Efrén is focused on understanding groundwater systems and including a hydrogeological approach in projects.

Efrén is a geologist from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and has a master’s degree in Earth and Climate Sciences focused on Hydrogeology from The University of Maine (USA). He also is pursuing a postgraduate diploma in Water Management from Universidad Incca. In his master’s thesis, Efrén investigated and simulated the groundwater flow in transboundary coastal aquifers in a semiarid basin located in La Guajira peninsula (Northern Colombia and northwestern Venezuela).
