Karolin joined SEI in May 2016. She works as a Research Associate with the Mistra EviEM and BONUS Return projects. She is currently on a leave of absence from SEI.
Karolin is a food agronomist with expertise in agricultural development and natural resource management. Her main interests concern gender relations in the agriculture sector, urban food systems and food security. She has previously worked both in the public and private sector with certification standards, food safety and food security issues, both in Sweden and internationally.
Karolin conducted her MSc thesis in Agricultural Development at the University of Copenhagen and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). It focused on gender relations in agricultural value chains, specifically cassava leaves, in Coastal Tanzania. She has also done projects on dairy farming in the Kenyan Central Highlands and on urban and peri-urban agriculture in central India, in collaboration with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the World Vegetable Center (AVRDC).
