Laura Hoyos

Laura is a Research Associate at SEI Latin America, based in Bogotá, Colombia, where she works with the Renewable Energy Research Team. She is an electrical engineer and holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Her professional experience and research span energy regulation, renewable energy systems, and just energy transitions.

Before joining SEI, Laura worked at the Energy and Gas Regulation Commission (CREG), the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Universidad Antonio Nariño, and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where she contributed to policy analysis, applied research, and academic teaching in the energy sector.

Her current research focuses on regulatory and institutional frameworks that enable renewable energy development, integrating technical and social perspectives. She also works on renewable energy resource assessment and the analysis of energy consumption patterns, with an emphasis on supporting equitable and sustainable energy transitions in Latin America.
