Sebastián Aedo

Research Associate

Sebastián is a Research Associate within the Water Team of SEI Latin America. He has broad experience in the assessment of climate change impacts and integrated water resources modelling using SEI’s Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model.

Before joining SEI, Sebastián worked on research and consulting projects with the private, public and academic sectors in Chile, based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) General Circulation Model (GCM) outputs and the MODFLOW and WEAP tools. This experience allowed him to conceptualize and model complex water resource systems, such as wetlands and coastal aquifers, surface-groundwater interaction, salt-flat basins, among others, and analyse the impacts that a changing climate has on them.

At SEI, Sebastián has focused on understanding the trade-offs and advantages of different strategies to assess climate change impacts at local scales and developing models to support water resources management related issues.

Sebastián also actively collaborates in courses related to hydroinformatics, climate change and water resources modelling to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Sebastián is a Civil Engineer and holds a MSc degree in Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering, both from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Hydrology and Climate Change Impacts from the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Chile.
