Silvia Calderón is Centre Director of SEI Latin America. Silvia has an extensive experience leading climate and sustainability programs across government, finance, and development organizations. Before joining SEI, Silvia worked with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), where she led climate programs on finance, forest conservation and renewable energy in Colombia. She also contributed to the implementation of USAID’s Global Climate Finance Roadmap and advised Missions across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Previously, as Environment Director at Colombia’s National Planning Department, Silvia spearheaded the country’s first Climate Finance Strategy and the adoption of a carbon tax. She also coordinated research on the economic impacts of climate change, with findings published in leading journals. Silvia has served as an international consultant for the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank on climate finance and air quality management in Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, South Asia, and Africa.
Her interests focus on the design of climate finance instruments, the use of public financial mechanisms to address environmental priorities, and the mobilization of private sector capital for sustainable development.
Silvia holds a Master of Public Administration in Environment and Energy Policy from Columbia University in New York, and a BA in Economics and Political Science from McGill University in Montreal.
