The Carbon Offset Guide is a comprehensive public guide in using carbon credits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The second edition of this guide offers updated information and is hosted on a new and improved website.
The world has until 2030 to reduce CO2 emissions in half in order to maintain a 50% chance of avoiding the worst of climate change. To sustain this chance, governments, businesses, and organizations must develop more effective greenhouse gas mitigation strategies. A way to do so is through carbon credits, a system for buying and trading proofs of reduced carbon emissions.
The Offset Guide is a comprehensive resource in understanding carbon credits and its value in contributing to the global effort to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This guide is broken down into five practical sections, designed to empower sustainable decision-making for government officials, technical experts, and other members of the public. The guide is a collaboration between experts from Stockholm Environment Institute and Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI), and is available in three different languages.
SEI experts informed the latest PDF version of this guide as well as contributed to the reworked companion website, which now includes additional information on other environmental commodity purchasing programs such as renewable energy certificates and emission allowances.
