Public toilets on the riverside at Dayak Village

Interesting place for toilets in Borneo. This nothing new in Dayak villages where the community lives on water in floating villages with houses suspended above the river on wooden stilts. Floating toilets are a common sight in such traditional Dayak or Ethnic Minority villages of Kalimantan.

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Water Project Design Guidelines provide a structured and programmatic approach to developing climate-resilient water projects. For water security projects for climate resilience, GCF uses innovative financing mechanisms to cover key domains such as water conservation, efficiency and reuse, hydrological observation, early warning and risk assessment, integrated water management and SDG-6, ecosystem-based adaptation, and climate-resilient WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene).

Part 3 of the guidelines provides actionable insights into addressing climate risks, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and integrating sanitation systems with broader environmental and socioeconomic goals. It includes step-by-step guidance for proposal development, strategies for adaptation and mitigation, and recommendations for strengthening policy, institutional, regulatory, and financing mechanisms. Designed for organisations seeking GCF funding, this resource is essential for creating sustainable, inclusive, and transformative sanitation solutions.
