Across the world, cities in the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden are often viewed as being at the forefront of climate action.

The report Nordic Green to Scale for Cities and Communities collects ongoing city-level climate solutions in Nordic cities, and reveals that scaling up these solutions could reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions in the region by approximately 26 million tons of carbon dioxide. Drawing on these insights this commentary presents the conditions, aside from technical solutions, that have contributed to the success of Nordic cities’ climate action.
