Romanus Opiyo, SEI Africa Programme Leader, Sustainable urbanization, was featured in a an article written by African business, where he spoke about the challenges in access to useful climate data in the assessment of climate risks to infrastructure. He also highlighted the importance of incorporating indigenous knowledge before launching infrastructure construction.

Insufficient focus on maintenance and forecasting future developments based on past experiences are also major challenges.

Some governments, such as in Kenya and Rwanda, are taking maintenance more seriously, while multilateral and bilateral development organizations are requiring improved risk and hazard analysis as a condition of funding.
