SDG summit held in New York on September 18-19 showed a global setback in SDG progress, in part, due to the numerous hectic issues the world has faced in recent years (e.g., the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ukraine war, increased climate change impacts, etc.). In the second half of the implementation of the Agenda 2030, governments need to tackle various challenges to accelerate SDG progress, being funding and coherence some of the most pressing ones.

Because some people are questioning multilateralism and the UN, funding for the SDGs has fallen back. But that’s not the only problem. In a case study, we show the contradictions in support for certain activities. On the one hand, we're helping renewable energy, and, on the other, we're paying out huge subsidies for fossil fuels.

The 2030 Agenda is the roadmap for a sustainable future for all. From now on, thinking strategically, finding synergies, and assessing the best means to achieve the goals is crucial.
