Our side event will have a panel discussion on the topic of carbon inequality, highlighting its importance in the negotiations. This will be followed by a moderated Q&A session on economic policy measures that can tackle inequality and achieve emissions reduction.

SEI researchers will then have a presentation of the new carbon inequality data available on the Emissions Inequality Dashboard.  The event will be livestreamed.

Our expected impact

This session seeks to bridge the gap between our research on carbon inequality and policy negotiations that currently fail to target emissions-intensive consumption. We aim to highlight the scale of carbon inequality that exists and provide an overview of the most recent data on this from the Emissions Inequality Dashboard. This website provides the emissions distribution among different income groups in over 170 countries from 1990 to 2019.
