Game night: Urban Labor-a-tree

SEI researcher Joanne Morris brings her expertise to the York Environment Festival 2025 with Urban Labor-a-tree, a strategy game that challenges players to design sustainable cities. Hosted by the YESI Play for the Planet Network, the event highlights how creativity and collaboration can inspire innovative approaches to thinking about climate, nature, and community.

In this fast-paced, interactive game night, you will compete to build the ultimate green city using Urban Labor-a-tree, a strategy board game inspired by real community voices. Choose where to plant, who to help, and how to balance climate, nature, and people. No planning skills needed. Get ready to put your game on and harness the power of creativity, teamwork and a bit of strategy. Ideal for gamers, changemakers and anyone who loves a good challenge.

This Games Night series is hosted by the YESI Play for the Planet Network at the University of York.

How to join

Join us on Tuesday 14 October 2025, 17:30–20:00, at the Sustainability Clinic, Market Square, University of York (YO10 5DD).

Open to anyone aged 16 years and over. No planning experience needed – just bring your creativity and enthusiasm. Light refreshments provided.
