Southeast Asia is home to a tenth of the world’s population. Most live on the water’s edge, where highly urbanised and industrialised habitats coexist with intense agricultural activity. Since 2022, Southeast Asian scientits involved in research and training partnerships around these specific environmental socio-systems have been collectively engaged in a process of structuring on a regional scale, and have scheduled a series of interdisciplinary workshops : the Southeast Asia Environmental Systems (SEAES) workshops.
The primary aim of these workshops is to connect scientists who are working on common issues relating to aquatic socio-ecosystems in Southeast Asia, in order to encourage the development of regional interdisciplinary partnerships. The 1st edition at USTH (Hanoi, Vietnam, December 2023) brought together 80 scientists to discuss their work on the functioning and evolution of these environmental systems.
Chulalongkorn University will host the second edition of the SEAES workshops on June 17-20 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, connecting more than 130 participants. The aim is now to strengthen scientific exchanges and, going beyond, to promote the science-society dialogue to foster the development of regional research and training projects in partnership by connecting:
