The 8th international Adaptation Futures Conference (AF2025) is hosted by the University of Canterbury in partnership with the World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP). As the flagship global event on climate change adaptation, it brings together practitioners, researchers, policymakers, community leaders and communicators from across the world to network, co-create, learn and accelerate adaptation action.
SEI’s participation in AF2025 will span interactive panels, workshops, side events, storytelling sessions and knowledge co-production formats. The contributions will especially focus on bridging science and practice, emphasizing inclusive approaches, Indigenous knowledge, creative engagement and enhancing enabling conditions for adaptation (such as finance, justice and cross-sector collaboration).

As boundary organizations continue to bridge the gap between climate knowledge and action, this event offered a unique opportunity for connection and mutual learning. Participants was introduced to INBOA’s mission and network, exchange experiences, and build new partnerships to strengthen climate adaptation at all scales.
Part of the AdaptationAGORA project, this poster presents a framework and metrics to evaluate epistemic injustice in knowledge co-production on adaptation. The framework is structured around four impact pathways: relevant knowledge, just participation, sustained relationships and mutual learning. Each pathway has associated metrics for activities, outcomes and impacts. It supports inclusive, accountable, and trust-based engagement in adaptation processes.

This dialogue workshop explores how creative and art-based approaches can unlock new ways of imagining and communicating climate adaptation. Participants will experience multiple art-based engagement activities and reflect on how storytelling, visual tools, and imagination can support inclusive urban climate action.

This session will explore what competencies are needed to perform boundary work and knowledge-brokering that accelerates adaptation action. Drawing on experiences from INBOA members, it aims to co-develop a shared understanding of the skills, values and institutional conditions that support effective practice at the science-policy-practice interface.
Co-production can be powerful, but it is not always smooth. This session creates a safe space to share lessons from difficult co-production experiences and co-develop strategies for more equitable, effective collaboration in the future.

This session explores how small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can become key actors in closing the adaptation gap. With examples and insights from the Climatewise tool, speakers will highlight scalable support mechanisms tailored to SME needs.
Karin André will speak about the role of platforms like WeADAPT and ClimateWise in bridging research and practice. She will share insights on co-designing solutions with users and the importance of data-driven tools to support SME adaptation.
