Åsa Persson, Research Director and Deputy Director of SEI, has been named the most influential person in sustainability in Sweden by the magazine Aktuell Hållbarhet.
A knowledgeable jury, led by Editor-in-Chief Ylva Bergman, annually ranks individuals active in business, politics, academia and civil society. For the first time, Åsa Persson has taken the top spot among Sweden’s 101 most influential people in climate and sustainability.

In addition to her leadership role at SEI, she is also Chair of the Swedish Climate Policy Council (Klimatpolitiska Rådet) since 2023 – an independent, interdisciplinary expert body that evaluates whether the government’s overall policies are leading toward the target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
It’s an honour to top the list, especially among so many dedicated individuals. It’s a sign that SEI, the Swedish Climate Policy Council and research more broadly are making important contributions – driving a knowledge-based transition where both risks and opportunities are made visible. I’m also glad to represent women at the top of the list – it would be great to see more of that!
Åsa Persson
In an interview with Aktuell Hållbarhet, she elaborates on her view of the climate transition globally, in the EU and in Sweden, emphasizing that climate leadership is a “perishable good.”
