Eileen Torres

Eileen Torres is a Research Associate at SEI Headquarters – Energy and Industry Transitions Team, Global Agendas, Climate and Systems Division.

She focuses on the acceleration of the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries and the analysis of land-based mitigation technologies and practices. Eileen supports the EU project Landmarc, the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) and the Accelerating Green Public Procurement project.

Her motivator is to contribute to building knowledge to ensure that governmental, industrial and corporate choices for emissions mitigation are made under scientific evidence.

Before joining SEI, Eileen worked in varied environments. Prior to beginning her master’s she worked for 3 years in the automotive sector in Colombia. On the other hand, during her master’s she contributed to assessing the interlinkages of different waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies in the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in cities, as a summer research assistant at the Department of Energy Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Lastly, in parallel to her master’s studies, she worked as a student data analyst for Normative.io. She found data used to estimate customers’ carbon footprint using the GHG protocol.

Eileen holds a M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden and a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia. Her master’s thesis project assessed biochar potential as a land-based emission mitigation measure in Colombia. This project was developed as a collaboration between SEI and KTH.
