Susie’s research interests include using data-driven tools in combination with stakeholder engagement to find solutions to water resource management issues, which benefit both the environment and the people living in it. She works extensively with SEI’s Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) system, as well as ArcGIS and other modelling software.
Her projects include working with Yolo County entities to investigate how stormwater management actions can relieve winter flooding and improve groundwater storage, and supporting the development of the Sacramento Water Allocation Model (SacWAM).
Susie earned her M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Tufts University and her B.S. in Environmental Geoscience from Boston College. Her master’s research, conducted in collaboration with SEI and its partners, took a systems engineering approach to investigating the impacts to river streamflow and connectivity resulting from large and small hydropower development in the Magdalena River, Colombia. Prior to joining SEI staff, she worked as an intern in SEI’s Somerville, MA office.
Other professional experience includes collecting geomorphic field data, estimating greenhouse gas emissions and fluxes resulting from wetland restoration, researching the impacts of nitrogen concentrations on wetland greenhouse gas emissions in the field, and field mapping springs in the high mountain desert. In her free time, Susie enjoys anything outdoors as well as contemporary and aerial dance.
