The core of this assignment is to identify and characterize a suite of strategies that possess a reasonable likelihood of success in spurring significant GHG emissions reductions over the next two decades.

All of the countries targeted by this effort have a track record of implementing energy and environmental policies that have already yielded sizeable GHG emissions reductions, from Brazil’s path-breaking ethanol program to China’s ambitious energy efficiency policies. At the same time, major new initiatives are needed across all countries to effectively address the climate change challenge.

The project includes the application of SEI’s LEAP system to develop baseline and mitigation scenarios for each country as well as assessments of the opportunities and barriers for mitigation in each country.
