The aim was to develop a methodology for assessing the effectiveness of the national implementation of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) in the clusters of biodiversity and chemicals/waste.
For that the existing review mechanisms for MEAs were analyzed and assessed against those existing under different regimes, such as the WHO, WTO, etc. Criteria for assessing the effectiveness of MEAs and their implementation in context of the three pillars of sustainable development: environment, economy and society were proposed.
