New partnership between SEI and Mekong River Commission (MRC)

The Memorandum of Understanding, to be signed on 21 March, will facilitate collaboration between the two institutions: the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), one of the world’s premier think tanks, and the Mekong River Commission (MRC), an inter-governmental organization that works directly with the governments of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam to jointly manage the shared water resources and the sustainable development of the Mekong River.

The new Memorandum of Understanding paves the way for both parties to collaboratively leverage their expertise, capacities, and extensive networks to address the complex challenges of transboundary water management and effective climate change action.

The key areas of collaboration include engagement in relevant regional or international events to foster a spirit of collaborative learning and knowledge sharing; joint studies and projects in areas such as transboundary water cooperation, decision support tools, groundwater management, and early warning systems, among others; expertise exchange to enhance the quality and impact of their respective works; information and resource sharing to promote the integration of MRC’s and SEI’s products and services into the broader work of managing the Mekong Region’s resources sustainably.

The collaborative agreement will come into effect upon signing and remain in force until March 2029.
