Around half of the food consumed in the UK comes from other countries, making the continued flow of goods through global supply chains essential. Long-term pressures such as climate change and biodiversity loss can affect countries’ ability to grow and process resources, while recent international conflicts have highlighted the short-term fragility of these supply chains.
Tools that map global supply chains and the environmental impacts linked to production and consumption can help countries like the UK understand and manage these risks.
During the webinar, developers of the Global Environmental Impacts of Consumption (GEIC) indicator and ENCORE will introduce the tools and explain how they can inform policy and supply chain risk management.
Simon Croft, a mathematician and modeller at SEI based at the University of York, specializes in global supply chain analysis, agricultural commodity flows and environmental impact assessment. He will introduce the GEIC dataset and its underpinning model, which he helped develop, and explore how the indicator can support risk and security assessments.
The webinar will also introduce ENCORE’s value chain functionality and conclude with a Q&A, giving participants the opportunity to put questions to the speakers.
