Fruit and vegetables important for mental well-being

A new study led by the University of York found that changes in fruit and vegetable consumption are correlated with changes in mental wellbeing.

Jon Ensor, Senior Research Fellow at SEI York and co-investigator at the IKnowFood project, comments on the wider benefits of the initiative.

The study is part of the IKnowFood project, which aims to develop a unifying understanding of food system resilience.

“As well as investigating consumer behaviour and wellbeing, the IKnowFood project is also exploring how farmers in the UK, and businesses across the global food supply chain, can become more resilient in the face of growing uncertainty in markets, regulation and the natural environment” says Jon.

This inter-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder approach intends to remove disconnects and enhance overall food system resilience both nationally and globally.
