The seminar, opened by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure, Ms Kadri Simson, discussed the results and findings of the Green to Scale project aiming to highlight the proven solutions from exiting fossil fuel-based economies and transitioning to low-carbon societies. After lunch, Michael Lazarus, Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute US centre (SEI US) and Georgia Piggot from SEI US provided examples of phasing out fossil fuels globally and in the US as well as comment on the political economy regarding the transition.

The Green to Scale study was funded by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra with financial support from the Nordic Council of Ministers. SEI Tallinn and SEI Africa contributed to the project research. The overall aim of Green to Scale was to see what would happen if Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine would scale the deployment of 10 selected solutions in energy, industry, housing, transport, agriculture and forestry sectors beyond business as usual and reach by 2030 the levels already achieved today by leading Nordic countries (you can see the earlier reports from these series here https://www.sitra.fi/en/topics/greentoscale/).
