LEAP training in South Africa: register today

SEI and Climate and Clean Air Coalition are hosting an in-person training workshop in June that will teach the basic and intermediate functions of SEI’s flagship energy modelling software, LEAP, for African participants. Register today – space is limited.

22 to 26 June 2026
Pretoria, South Africa

Join SEI researchers for a five-day training in Pretoria, South Africa, on how to perform energy modelling and planning using our flagship software, Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP). SEI is hosting the in-person hands-on workshop with Climate and Clean Air Coalition for climate and clean air planning in Africa.

LEAP is a powerful and versatile software system for integrated energy, climate change mitigation and air pollution reduction planning. Developed at SEI US, LEAP currently has more than 76 000 members worldwide, helping policymakers and planners meet future energy needs, mitigate climate change and shift to low-carbon sustainable development.

We encourage professionals and academics from African countries working in energy ministries, environment agencies, universities, NGOs, utilities or consultancies to apply.

Participants will learn advanced energy modelling techniques in LEAP, how use LEAP’s Impact Benefits Calculator to assess air quality and climate impacts, and how to apply an open-source LEAP model covering all 54 African nations.

There is no registration fee, and accommodation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided. There is potential travel funding available for participants from outside South Africa, but it is limited. There are currently 30–40 places available, and the application deadline is 17 May.

We especially encourage women and non-binary professionals to apply. No prior LEAP experience required.
