Will 2025 be a breakthrough year in the attempts to tackle marine pollution? In this event you will meet leading experts on policy processes and innovation who explore important emerging trends.
ending at 12:00 CEST
Marine pollution is rising at an alarming rate, but 2025 could be the year when we start reversing the trend. This session will outline the current dangers, not least for global food security, but at the same time realistically assess the potential of three major shifts:
How can we create synergies between the three, resulting in an effective plastics treaty, ambitious implementation of the GFC and widespread use of the many innovations that exist but are under-utilized?
Bringing together governments, international organizations, NGOs and researchers, the session will discuss topics like expectations related to the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, incentives for GFC implementation, effective source-to-sea management, how to protect small-scale fishers from pollution threats, and best-practice examples of river cleanups.
This session is part of a half-day event organized by SEI at the UN Ocean Conference on 12 June. Join the full day starting at 9 am to learn more about Enhancing Coastal Resilience for a Thriving Blue Economy (Event ID: 0265).
