On April 13, the Coalition for Sustainable Development (Kestliku Arengu Koalisatsioon) was founded in Estonia. Its aim is to transform Estonia into a welfare state in which governance, production, consumption and policy development is based on principles of sustainability.

The foundation meeting was attended by the Government Office, Tallinn Airport, Telia, Sustinere, Miltton Nordics, Coop Estonia, Biomarket, Cleantech ForEst, Estonian Environmental Management Association, Statistics Estonia, Responsible Business Forum of Estonia, SEI Tallinn, Mondo, NGO Lilleoru and Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation.

Agne Kuimet from the Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation explains the need for a Coalition for Sustainable Development: “The standard of living in Estonia has grown exponentially since regaining its independence, but in addition to the economic success there are the challenges of the extensive burden on the environment and the problems in the social sphere. The Coalition provides an opportunity for everyone to contribute who has a vision of sustainable development and is guided by it in their activities. ”

In 2018, the Coalition, in cooperation with the centre for policy studies Praxis, to analyze how the policy coherence principles are implemented in Estonia. The plan is to provide input to the development plans and regulations and to create a meaningful and up-to-date engagement portal www.hoolin.ee in order to raise society’s awareness about sustainable development.

The Coalition welcomes all those who want to express their views on sustainable development at community, social and political levels – entrepreneurs, NGOs, policy-makers and decision-makers.
