SEI and the World Food Programme launch collaboration on green and resilient food supply chains and stronger local food systems in humanitarian contexts.
The collaboration signals an intention for the two organizations to work together more closely on research, innovation and practical solutions that help safeguard global food security and improve efficiency.
As climate change, inflation and conflicts place increasing strain on food systems, there is a growing need to reduce risk while lowering environmental impact. The collaboration brings together SEI’s research and analytical capabilities with WFP’s global operational experience to strengthen proactive and anticipatory planning for humanitarian supply chains.
By improving data informed planning and understanding how climate variability and long-term climate trends can affect sourcing and supply chain operations, the collaboration aims to support more efficient and reliable delivery of humanitarian assistance in climate exposed contexts.
The collaboration is wide-ranging, and in particular aims to:
SEI and WFP have a long-standing relationship that the collaboration will build on, including a past initiative on tackling water security challenges in Iraq.
The agreement provides a flexible platform for SEI and WFP to design projects and mobilize funding together. We are now seeking partners and funders who share an interest in sustainable supply chains, resilient food systems, and practical, efficient, and scalable solutions.
We welcome conversations with organizations interested in shaping and supporting this agenda.
