Under the auspices of the SEI project “Climate-smart water technologies for rice production in the Lancang-Mekong Region,” the 1st regional meeting on promoting climate-smart water technologies and innovations for sustainable water resources and rice production under climate change in the Lancang-Mekong Region convened on October 30-31, 2023, at the Centre Point Hotel Terminal 21 Korat in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand.
This landmark event brought together a dynamic assembly of 70-80 participants, representing diverse sectors, including policymakers, government officials, farmers, academic institutes/researchers, private enterprises and media representatives.

The meeting set out to highlight good practices and established techniques of climate-smart water technologies in rice farming systems. Its objectives encompassed showcasing innovative practices, sharing the current state of knowledge in this domain, fostering dialogues with policymakers, and encouraging networks among practitioners and experts.
Embracing a hybrid approach, the meeting facilitated both onsite and online participation, ensuring a broad and inclusive engagement.
The first day featured one technical presentation and one case studies from each participant country, emphasizing good practices in rice production. The agenda seamlessly transitioned to policy engagement, group discussions and networking, providing a comprehensive exploration of climate-smart water technologies.
On the second day, participants explored into the workings of a Climate-Smart Farm — the Upper Mun Operation and Maintenance of Water Distribution Systems Project at Chorakae Hin Subdistrict, Khonburi District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Hosted by the Royal Irrigation Department, Thailand, this insightful session highlighted the practicalities of implementing advanced water technologies.

The meeting achieved its objectives by facilitating robust knowledge exchange, promoting collaborative initiatives and identifying strategies for scaling up climate-smart water technologies across the Lancang-Mekong Region.
