SEI is pleased to announce its new role as a national subcontractor to the European Commission’s Energy Poverty Advisory Hub (EPAH), the EU’s leading initiative dedicated to eradicating energy poverty and advancing a just energy transition.
SEI will serve as the antenna organization to EPAH for Sweden. In this role, SEI will act as a national platform for energy poverty expertise, linking local and national efforts to the wider goals and resources of EPAH. The partnership is designed to create a two-way channel between the EU and Swedish communities, enabling knowledge-sharing, support and policy development that address energy poverty in tangible and impactful ways.
As antenna organization, SEI will act as a direct link between the support offered by EPAH and the needs among Swedish authorities, municipalities and households.
“This will enable us to foster a strong national energy poverty network that can inform EPAH on the relevant research, practices and policies in Sweden, while also supporting and mobilizing vulnerable communities for EPAH’s technical assistance calls.”
Jenny von Platten, Research Fellow at SEI and national expert in the SEI-EPAH partnership
By supporting Sweden’s participation in the EPAH network, SEI will:
This role positions SEI as a strategic link between EU-level policymaking and local implementation in Sweden, strengthening efforts to reduce inequality, increase energy efficiency and ensure that no one is left behind in the energy transition.
Stakeholders interested in learning more about the partnership, or how they can monitor and address energy poverty at local level, are welcome to contact Jenny von Platten.
Since 2019, von Platten has researched energy poverty in Sweden through her PhD and postdoctoral work, and has supported national authorities and municipalities in understanding, monitoring and addressing the issue. From January 2026, she will lead the research project Underconsumption in the Anthropocene? Past, present and future of energy poverty in Sweden at SEI.
Launched by the European Commission in 2021, the European Commission’s Energy Poverty Advisory is the successor to the EU Energy Poverty Observatory (2016–2020) and is the cornerstone initiative for addressing energy poverty across Europe.
Developed at the request of the European Parliament, EPAH provides:
EPAH also collaborates with the Covenant of Mayors to monitor local progress in eradicating energy poverty.
