Daniela Duran is a Research Associate at SEI Headquarters, Water, Coasts and Ocean Team, Societies, Climate and Policy Support Division. She works on the Gridless Solutions Initiative and the Resilient Coasts—Caribbean Sea project. Her area of interest is interdisciplinary research focused on water resources management and sustainable development.
Prior to joining SEI, Daniela worked on projects related to water management in her home country (Colombia). During this time, she contributed to the Water Resource Management Plan (PORH) of four different basins in the central region of Colombia, enhancing water management strategies.
Daniela holds a M.Sc. in Sustainable Development from Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden, a M.Sc. in Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Escuela Colombiana de Ingenieria Julio Garavito, Colombia. In her second master’s thesis, Daniela investigated the role of private entities in providing decentralized drinking water services in urban and peri-urban areas. The study was conducted during her internship at SEI’s Gridless Initiative. In her first master’s thesis, Daniela explored the efficiency of domestic bio-sand filters in removing microorganisms from contaminated water.
