Johanna Hedlund

Johanna Hedlund is a Senior Research Fellow and Team Lead for the International Climate Risk and Adaptation Team at SEI Headquarters. Her research is currently focusing on 1) analysing the effect of extreme weather events on transboundary climate impacts through global crop trade and 2) investigating the role of international cooperation in the climate-trade nexus.

Johanna has experience in working with advanced network methods, large global and sub-national datasets and combining quantitative and qualitative methods related to systems theory. She previously developed the Transnational Climate Impact Index as a quantification of countries’ exposure to the globalised effects of climate change impacts. Her PhD thesis applied network methods to better understand policy interdependencies as a driver of cooperation in Sweden at local and regional scales.

Prior to joining SEI, Johanna held a Wallenberg postdoc at the Department of Earth System Science and Woods Institute for the Environment under the Doerr School of Sustainability at Stanford University. She also worked as a postdoctoral scholar for 4TU.Centre for Resilience Engineering at the University of Twente.

She holds a PhD in Sustainability Science from Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University, and a MSc from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Lund University.
