Uttam Ghimire is a Research Associate in SEI Asia.

Uttam has an extensive experience in hydrological modelling and hydroinformatics management. His work led him to use machine learning to develop flood forecasting systems, where he also processes and interprets large data sets.

Uttam is currently doing research on process-based modelling of greenhouse gas emissions, while gaining further knowledge on machine learning. He also has programming knowledge in R and Python platforms.

Prior to joining SEI, Uttam worked as a hydrologist in Regional Integrated Multi Hazard Early Warning Systems (RIMES), Thailand. He was actively involved in developing and implementing user relevant end-to-end flood forecasting system in Southeast and South Asian countries like Myanmar, Philippines, Nepal and Bhutan. He worked on sector specific impact analysis of climate change in member countries of RIMES. He also contributed in capacity development of several national meteorological and hydrological services in the region by providing trainings and workshops.

Uttam is a PhD student in Water Resources Engineering at the University of Guelph in Canada. He obtained his Master’s degree in Engineering Water from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.
