A review of Sweden’s interim targets for 2030 is currently being conducted by the Environmental Targets Committee. How should the targets be designed to better align with Sweden’s EU commitments? Should we continue to be best in class or scrap the interim targets altogether? Is net zero emissions by 2045 possible if we abandon the national targets?

The Paris Agreement stipulates that global warming should be limited to well below two degrees. However, there is no magic limit where the risks suddenly strike; every tenth of a degree we can avoid makes a difference and shapes our future opportunities. Climate change has consequences for, among other things, human security, migration, resource distribution and the economy. We must adapt to these new realities while also making adjustments to limit further consequences.
What is required to navigate the complex landscape? What decisions are required from a political perspective to create the conditions for timely adaptation, how is the business sector affected and what adaptations are required from a security and defense perspective?
SEI speaker: Åsa Persson, SEI Research Director and Deputy Director, Chair of the Swedish Climate Policy Council
Organizer: Länsförsäkringar

In 2024, Sweden’s Riksdag decided on a new direction for marine environmental policy. Despite many good goals for fisheries policy and eutrophication, there is a lack of concrete and funded proposals for how to achieve these goals. Additionally, many of the marine environmental problems are not addressed at all.
